Kotoko subdues Wise to advance to FA Cup semi-final
Asante Kotoko lunched a dramatic comeback to beat visiting Eleven Wise 2-1 in their MTN FA Cup quarter final clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, to book a place in the last four.
The vociferous Kotoko supporters were sitting on thorns until Michael Helegbe produced that stunning strike three minutes in extra time to seal victory for the Porcupine Warriors.
Kotoko went ahead in 42minutes when Helegbe’s shot on his unfavourite right foot found the net having profited from sloppy defending.
Yussif Aziz should have doubled the advantage moments on but goalkeeper, Steve Enchil saved the situation on the stroke of half time.
Wise resorted to a 3-5-2 formation in the second half and managed to outnumber Kotoko in the midfield. In one of their surging runs upfront, Wise’s Christian Essoh let go a thunderbolt which Kotoko’s Micky Ofosu handled in the vital area for a spot kick in the 69th minute which Justice Mensah converted to restore parity.
Kotoko wrapped the game in the extra time o advance.
