Kumawu gets veterinary clinic

A Veterinary Clinic has been inaugurated at Kumawu with an appeal to people in peri-urban areas to take to backyard cropping and animal farming to arrest the diminishing of arable lands in the area.

Mr Samuel Asiamah, Sekyere-Kumawu District Chief Executive said this could help boost the income of the local farmers to fight poverty.

Mr Asiamah asked farmers to take advantage of the expertise of veterinary and agricultural extension agents to adopt improved farming techniques to increase crop yield and returns.

He announced plans by the district assembly to embark on anti-rabies education campaign in the area and urged pet owners to vaccinate their animals, warning that, those who failed to do that would be prosecuted.

Dr Albert H.K. Kwansah-Filson, Ashanti Regional Veterinary Officer, said his outfit would provide every needed support to the clinic to rid the area of rabies and other animal diseases.

He reminded farmers about the importance of vaccination, saying, it protects livestock and poultry and this is why they should make sure that their animals are vaccinated.
