Committee working on Ghana’s Building Code completes work
The 18- member committee established by the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing to review the Building Code of 1988 has completed and submitted its work.
The committee has subsequently presented the document (code) to the sector Minister, Alhaji Collins Dauda.
A statement signed by Mr Abraham Otabil, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the code when approved by Cabinet would seek to address some challenges in the housing sector including development control rules and general building requirements.
“The new Building Code will support several efforts to regulate the construction industry recognising the effect the absence of an efficient Building Code and Building Regulation is having on the way buildings are constructed in the country,” the statement said.
It said members of the Committee were drawn from the Building and Road Research Institute, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Institute of Surveyors, Geoscientists, Standard Authority and EPA.
