NADMO advises persons living in cracked buildings to re-locate ahead of rainy season
The Volta Regional office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), on Tuesday advised people occupying buildings with cracked walls to re-locate ahead of the rainy season.
The NADMO also asked people living at low lying areas and kiosks in waterways or near big gutters to re-locate to highlands.
Mr Pascal Agbagba, in-charge of NADMO Management Information Systems, Volta Region, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Ho, said the re-location was necessary to forestall flood related disasters in the region.
He cited that Hatsukope in Ketu South, Keta and communities along the Volta Lake as major disaster prone areas, and appealed to people in those areas to cooperate with NADMO to avoid any calamity.
He advised against the felling of trees during the rainy season because they serve as wind breaks.
Mr Agbagba asked traditional authorities and politicians to support NADMO to prevent disasters to avoid unnecessary cost to the state.
On May 1, NADMO together with non-governmental organizations organized clean-up exercise throughout the region ahead of the rainy season.
Last year, several hundreds of people around Ho-Fiave, Civic centre, Ho Polytechnic and Polyclinic were displaced by floods and several others were also displaced across the region.
