Accra ready for rains – AMA Boss
Mr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, says the Assembly is prepared to help reduce flooding in the metropolis during this raining season.
He said as part of measures to achieve this goal, work is underway to construct new drains, as well as clear gutters of filth.
Mr Vanderpuije said this during a tour of some parts of the city to inspect the progress of work.
Places visited included Chemu Down Stream Lagoon, Mampon Drain, Kaneshie Drain and Bubuashie- Darkuman Drain.
Mr Vanderpuije said even though the Accra Metropolitan Assembly is working to clear the city of filth, some residents are not maintaining clean environment.
“Maintaining areas that have been cleared is a major challenge. The least that people can do to help curb the situation is to keep the city clean,” he stressed.
He expressed disappointment at some land owners who lease out pavements along drains for people to set up shops.
He instructed the city authorities to remove such shops.
Mr Vanderpujie said the Assembly intends to prosecute people who had returned to places that had been cleared of traders.
