Government urged to strengthen state institutions
The Obogu Circuit Minister of the Christ Apostolic Church in the Asante-Akim South District, Reverend Solomon Kyei, has appealed to the government to adequately resource state institutions to enable them to perform efficiently.
He said efforts should be made to provide them with the needed logistics to deliver on their mandate.
Additionally, the bureaucracy and bottlenecks that tend to impede the smooth operation of these institutions must be removed.
The Rev Kyei was speaking at a forum on domestic violence organized by the District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for the Women’s Fellowship of the Church at Obogu.
He said the Police, Social Welfare Department and the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) should be supported to give protection to women and children and also aid those who suffer abuse to have access to justice.
He commended the NCCE for embarking on the education drive and urged it to extend its activities to people in the “difficult-to-reach communities” where domestic violence is most prevalent.
Mr. Patrick Asare, a Civic Education Officer of the NCCE, urged victims of domestic violence to be bold and report their cases to the appropriate institutions.
