Fomena gets GH¢250,000 health centre
A GH¢250,000.00 health centre built at Fomena in the Adansi North District to give the people access to quality health care, has been inaugurated amidst joyful celebrations.
It has facilities for Out-Patients Department (OPD), theatre, laboratory, dispensary, disease control unit and patients’ wards.
MTN Ghana Foundation provided the funding and the furnishing, including beds and mattresses.
The inaugural ceremony was timed to coincide with the MTN Ashanti fest celebration.
Mr James Bukari Basintale, the Company’s General Manager for the Northern sector, said they were determined to support health and education development as well as economic empowerment of the people to better their lives.
The Foundation has since 2007, pumped over GH¢11 million into various community development projects in these three areas.
In respect of health support, they have constructed a 30-bed maternity ward for Ejisu Government Hospital and supplied an incubator for the neo-natal unit of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital.
Mr Basintale underlined the need for all stakeholders to work together to bring down maternal mortality, which he said was high in Ashanti with the current ratio standing at 315 deaths per 100,000 live births.
Alhaji Lateef Majeed, the Adansi North District Chief Executive, praised the Foundation for the project and said it would significantly help to improve health delivery in the area.
Mrs Getrude Mante, the District Director of Health Service, said the facility would aid students of the Fomena Community Nursing Training School in their practical training.
She promised that they would do everything to post a medical officer to the Centre and appealed to the Assembly to assist provide accommodation for health professionals working there.
She also appealed for an ambulance and walling of the Centre.
Okofo Sobin-Kai II, Acting President of the Adansi Traditional Council, reminded the management to take good care of the facility.
