Ghana’s Frimpong undergoes surgery on right knee
Midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has been ruled of next month’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after undergoing surgery on his right knee.
Frimpong, who spent the final halve of the season on loan at Fulham from Arsenal is reported to have sustained an injury in last Sundays clash against Swansea City.
A statement on the Arsenal website read “Emmanuel Frimpong underwent surgery to his right knee on Wednesday night following an injury sustained in Fulham’s Premier League match at Swansea City on Sunday.
“Frimpong will now begin his rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in around two months’ time.”
The 21-year old, who made his much-awaited Black Stars debut last March against Sudan in Kumasi, is the latest player to pull-out of the doubler header against Sudan and Lesotho on June 7 and June 16 in Khartoum and Maseru.
The news will serve a major blow to Stars coach Kwasi Appiah after second-choice goalie Adam Larsen Kwarasey earlier withdrew from the squad due to an impending surgery next week.
Appiah is expected to make public his squad for the two games at the end of the week.
The outcome of the two matches will serve a great push towards the Stars quest for a successive third appearance at the Mundial.
