Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister pledges to contain any threat to peace

Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister on Wednesday declared that the Brong-Ahafo Regional Security Council (REGSEC) would work effectively to contain any threat to peace and security in the Region.

“This, we believe, will create a conducive and congenial environment for law abiding citizens of the Region to go about their businesses peacefully”.

Mr Aidoo was addressing the first meeting of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Co-ordinating Council (BARCC) in Sunyani.

It was attended by about 70 members including Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), Presiding Members and Heads of Departments.

The Regional Minister said a peaceful and conducive environment for uninterrupted development in the Region was needed saying “we cannot achieve development for the Region in an atmosphere of insecurity”.

He said the REGSEC in collaboration with the Municipal and District Security Councils had been able to bring the few security threats that had emerged, including armed robbery, land and chieftaincy disputes, under control.

Mr Aidoo said the BARCC has developed a Strategic Plan for the Region that identified specific activities for the Assemblies to facilitate the implementation of some critical policy measures by government.

He said Youth Employment, Street and Property Naming Manual, Decentralization Policy Framework and Inter-Governmental Fiscal Framework were all crucial policy measures initiated by government to improve the socio-economic lives of the populace.

Mr Aidoo appealed to the Assemblies to collaborate with its stakeholders to develop “Action Plans for the establishment of Departments and their integration as Departments of the Assemblies” for the implementation of those policy measures to achieve the government’s vision.

He also directed the MDAs to take the necessary steps to stop illegal activities in their respective areas of jurisdiction and thereby sustain the environment and the development of the Region.
