GH¢30,000 abattoir opened at Jema

Mr Kwadwo Nyame Datiakwa, Kintampo South District Chief Executive, has called on butchers to be wary of communicable diseases in animals they slaughter for human consumption.

He said slaughtering animals in unauthorized places without the knowledge of sanitary inspectors was wrong and could posed health problems.

Mr Datiakwa made the call when inaugurating a GH¢30,000 abattoir at Jema funded by the District Development Fund (DDF).

He said the meat shop would help eliminate quack operators in the area, who sell unwholesome meat to the people without the observation of sanitary inspectors.

Mr Datiakwa warned butchers engaged in slaughtering animals outside the meat shop to desist from that and urged sanitary inspectors to monitor the activities of such butchers.

He called on the people to inculcate the culture of maintenance to prolong the life-span of the facility.

Mr Datiakwa announced that a GH¢40,000 slaughter house at Jema had been awarded on contract to help improve hygienic condition in the sale of meat to the general public.

He stressed the need for the butchers to reciprocate the gesture being offered by the Assembly to honour their tax obligation for more development projects in the area.
