The Kofi Annan International Peace Training Centre (KAIPTC), has been given accreditation to offer additional academic programmes in peace studies.

The programmes are Masters Degree in Conflict, Peace and Security as well as Masters Degree in Gender, Peace and Security.

Brigadier-General Obed Boamah Akwa, Commandant of the KAIPTC said the introduction of the Masters Degree in Gender, Peace and Security was in response to the United Nations Security Council Resolutions13/25 and 18/20.

The Commandant made this known during the 5th Annual General Meeting of the Association for Security Sector Education and Training.

The meeting was on the theme: “Supporting the Implementation of Security Sector Reform Strategies within Regional and Sub-Regional Organisations.”

The resolutions sought to promote among other things women’s leadership roles in security institutions and participation in peace support operations, said Brigadier-General Akwa.

He said the Centre has also successfully instituted one of its flagship programmes, namely, Kofi Annan Dag Hammarskjold Annual Lectures.

The Commandant said the centre is involved in the training of military and civilian personnel for various peacekeeping missions in Africa and beyond.

He said the centre plans to explore further linkages between governance and security sector reforms practices in its future programmes.

The meeting served as a platform that brought together experts, security practitioners and policy makers to share experiences and to review training methodologies on security sector reforms to achieve maximum impact.
