Company MD formerly providing security at Ghana airports arrested in US for drug trafficking
The Managing Director of the Sohin Security Limited, the company government on Monday directed that its contract to provide security at the Kotoka International Airport be suspended, has been arrested in the United states for drug trafficking.
Mr Solomon Adelequaye is alleged to be part of an international drug trafficking syndicate that has been operating between the West African sub-region and the US.
He was arrested together with three other members of the syndicate including a Colombian national, Samuel Antonio Pinedo-Rueda and two Nigerians-Frank Chima Muodum and Orjinweke Celestine Ofor.
A statement issued on Tuesday in Accra by the Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) Yaw Akrasi Sarpong said the smashing of the drug ring was as a result of the standing cooperation between the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the Department of Justice of the United States and the NACOB.
Government on Monday directed the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) to immediately suspend its contract with Sohin Security limited in response to ongoing investigations by the security agencies into the activities of the company and its management.
Government also instructed the GACL to coordinate with the state security to ensure that the security at the airport was not compromised as a result of the directive.
