Parliamentary committee meets energy operators

ParliamentThe Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament has begun a series of meetings with organisations operating within the energy sector to enable the body to know their challenges.

The Committee has so far met Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Tema Oil Refinery, Minerals Commission, Electricity Company of Ghana, Bui Power Authority and Ghana Gas Company.

Mr Kwabena Donkor, Chairman of the Committee said Parliament has oversight responsibility over the operations of the organisations, hence the need to know about their operations and if it is within the confines of the law.

Mr Ben Ayeh, Chief Executive Officer of Minerals Commission said 30 per cent of all mining activities in the country are carried out by foreigners.

He said a large number of Ghanaians cannot enter into large scale.
