Industry Ministers to discuss Africa’s post-2015 development agenda

ManufacturingIndustry Ministers in Africa are to meet next week to discuss the continent’s future – post-2015 development agenda.

The 20th Ordinary Session of the Conference of the African Union Ministers of Industry (CAMI) will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from June 10-14, 2013.

The Ministers are expected to put particular emphasis on support for the implementation of the Strategy for the Action Plan for Accelerated Industrial Development of Africa (AIDA), production diversification; decent job creation; energy production for industrial development; and technology transfer.

Themed “Accelerating Industrialization for Africa within the post-2015 development agenda”, organisers say the meeting aims to provide a more growth focused approach and solid foundation for addressing Africa’s present and future development challenges.

In a statement, the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), said the meeting will also provide guidelines for policy orientation and coherence within the Post-2015 Development Framework, and highlight Africa’s industrialization as a key factor for the development process of the continent.

The outcomes of the Conference, the ECA statement indicated, will be used to provide guidance to international and national policy-making in shaping the post-2015 UN development agenda, create an enabling environment to meet shared objectives and support global solutions to Africa’s challenges.

The outcomes will also be submitted to the upcoming AU Summit of Heads of States and Governments for consideration and adoption, it said.
