Lightning kills fisherman

A 45-year old fisherman Kwesi Dadzie was killed when lightning struck the canoe, he and four others were fishing on at sea, near Half Assini on Thursday.

According to a police spokesman who pleaded anonymity, the fishermen were on a fishing expedition when it started raining heavily, accompanied by lightning.

He said when the fishermen decided to return home, a lightning struck the deceased and another person, whose name was only given as Kofi, and were thrown into the sea.

The police spokesman said Kofi later resurfaced and got back into the canoe but Dadzie, from Asalfa in the Central Region, was not seen again.

He said a search party has been organized by fishermen in the area to retrieve the body while police investigations continue.
