Unauthorized speed ramps affecting Metro Mass buses
Baffour Osei Wusu, Brong Ahafo Regional Depot Manager of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) on Friday said the increase in unauthorised speed ramps on the Sunyani–Dormaa-Ahenkro road, are affecting operations of the company.
He said a number of buses have been destroyed as a result while drivers and conductors trained by the company had vacated their post on health grounds.
Baffour Wusu who made this known speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani said the drivers and conductors complained of waist pains while the women among them vacate their post immediately they became pregnant to avoid miscarriage.
He said the situation is affecting the company in the repairing of damaged buses and training of new drivers to meet their standard of driving.
Baffour Wusu said currently 63 buses are plying 23 routes in the Region- Drobo, Dormaa-Ahenkro, Nkoranza, Yeji, Techiman, Hwidiem, Derma and Techimantia.
He said the company’s numerical strength in the Region is more than 400 but keeps reducing due to the problem.
Baffour Wusu said a lot of measures have been instituted to check indiscipline, absenteeism and stealing to sustain the company in the interest of the public.
He noted that public patronage of the buses is encouraging because of the better services rendered in terms of reliability, comfort and affordability.
However, Baffour Wusu pointed out that the company loose much revenue during the farming season since most of their clients are farmers who are busy on the farm.
He said the relationship between drivers, conductors and passengers are cordial and asked the passengers to continue with such cooperation and be patient with the drivers to enjoy quality services.
Baffour Wusu advised passengers to ensure that they receive their tickets before boarding the buses since any person found on the bus without a ticket would be made to pay three times the fare or be prosecuted.
