Sunyani East Rotary Club receives Charter
Rotary Club International has officially presented a charter of recognition to the Sunyani East Rotary Club after attaining a fully registered membership status with the international body.
With the induction of the Sunyani East Club, Rotary International now has three charters in Brong-Ahafo Region. The other two charters are the Sunyani Central Rotary Club and Techiman Rotary Club.
Rotarian Theodore Diop, Governor of District 9100, representing West Africa, presented the charter on behalf of Rotarian Sakuji Tanaka, President of Rotary International at a short ceremony in Sunyani.
He stressed that “Rotary is neither a sect nor secret society, nor an association of rich people”,
He said with a membership of 1.2 million in 200 countries, Rotary was a service organisation committed to working to help alleviate the plight of the poor in society.
“It respects the religious, philosophical and political views of its members, but does not allow political, religious and philosophical discussions in meetings”, he stated.
Rotarian Diop explained that since its inception in 1905, Rotary had efficiently shown concern for humanity, by promoting humanitarian values to address emergency situations, and humanistic values to make mankind move forward.
“It is also the force of love that inspire us, that promotes our selfless altruism, and enlighten our sense of sharing and solidarity, externalised through the implementation of exemplary actions such as the eradication of polio from the surface of the earth”, Rotarian Diop explained.
Rotarian Michael Kwabena Gyamfi, President of Sunyani East Rotary Club, said the new status of the club would create an active forward thinking club that would make a significant contribution to the objectives of Rotary.
