Invitation of experts to investigate fire outbreaks ideal – Senior citizen
Nana Amokona Nimpong, a Senior Citizen of Sunyani has endorsed President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to invite experts from the United States of America (USA) to help unravel the causes of recent fire outbreaks at markets in Accra.
Nana Nimpong 77, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, expressed concern about the rate of fire outbreaks at some popular markets in the country, saying “The decision by President Mahama is in the right direction”.
He was optimistic findings of the experts would determine whether they were caused by arson or technical, stressing that the consistent manner the outbreaks occurred in Accra and elsewhere were suspicious.
However, Nana Nimpong noted that if the acts were to sabotage the Government in power, then those responsible must bear in mind that, that a fire outbreak in any market in the country had no respect for the goods and items of any trader belonging to any political party.
He blamed the woes of Ghana on selfishness, apathy, and above-all get-rich-quick mentality among the people unlike the developed countries who concentrate their political activities on how their countries could be developed for the benefit of the citizenry but not the parochial interest of any individual or particular group of people.
Nana Nimpong said, any reversal of the canker among Ghanaians could only become possible through divine intervention.
“The get-rich-quick attitude has assumed such an alarming proportion in the country that it would only need God’s intervention before the nation could be salvaged from the political doldrums,” he added.
Nana Nimpong therefore, appealed to leaders of religious bodies to use their pulpits to educate their members, especially the youth, on the need to draw a line between national interest and their parochial interest in all their endeavours.
