President John Dramani Mahama on Monday commended members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their support that gave the party a resounding victory in the 2012 general election.

He advised them not to rest on their oars since the party is preparing the various branches and re-organising its support base for subsequent elections.

President Mahama gave the commendation while addressing executives and members of the NDC at the party’s headquarters in Accra on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the formation of the party.

Commenting on the New Patriotic Party’s election petition at the Supreme Court, he said the verdict would show that “We (NDC) won cleanly in a free and fair election.”

The President who entered the Party headquarters at 1745 hours was welcomed by NDC stalwarts including Dr Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman and Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary.

With the 2012 general election campaign tunes booming in the background, President Mahama received cheers from scores of party supporters who had thronged the precinct of the NDC head office.

“I will encourage you to continue with the good work in the interest our party,” President Mahama said, noting that a stronger party base would be a contributory factor in the success of the government.

President Mahama told the party leadership that he found it necessary to visit the headquarters and to solidarise with the party activists to keep the NDC organised and strong.

Dr Adjei told the President that the executives and supporters appreciated his visit, which he said, would afford them the opportunity to discuss issues concerning the party.
