Mr James Victor Gbeho, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, has been appointed as President of the Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF).

A statement signed by Mr Ashim Morton, Chairman and Founder of the Foundation, which was copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday said.

Mr Gbeho, who is also a former President of the Economic Community of West African States subsequently, led a delegation of the Advisory Board Members of the Foundation to pay a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, who is the Life Patron of the MEF at his palace.

The visit coincided with the Akwasidae festival.

The Advisory Board members includes Mr Assouma Nouhoum of Benin, Mr Larbi Katti; Algeria, Mr Ademola Onafowokan; Nigeria, Mr Madam Gifti Ababulgu;  Ethiopia, Mr Omar Selim; Egypt,  Mr Batho Mengue; Equatorial Guinea, and Mr Jeanette Ndhlovu of South Africa.

The statement said MEF would host the Lifetime Africa Achievement Prize 2014 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

“Some of the past laureates nominated by the Foundation include Mr Godswill Akpabio, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, Mr Kofi Annan former, Secretary General of the United Nations, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Professor Wole Soyinka, Author, James Wolfensohn, former President of the World Bank, Cyril Ramaphosa, Vice President of African National Congress, South Africa and the late President, John Evans Atta Mills of Ghana.

The MEF is a private institution registered as a company limited by Guarantee under the Ghana Companies Code of 1964 Act172.

The Foundation was founded by Ashim Morton, the Chairman of the Board.

The MEF aims at creating programmes that inculcate leadership, excellence and mentorship for all and to recognise the diligent works of mankind for others to follow.

It supports non-profit organisations through sponsorship in Ghana and Africa with a mission to create equality for all and to raise the standard of living of its citizens in both the rural and urban areas.

The Foundation supports the objectives of the National House of Chiefs.
