Youth urged to obey Supreme Court ruling on election petition
Mr Francis Egyaku Donkoh, Central Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the youth to remain calm while they await the the Supreme Court ruling on the 2012 election petition.
He was addressing a meeting of leaders of Tertiary Education Students Confederation (TESCON) at Cape Coast.
He said the call had become necessary because as future leaders, the youth had a responsibility to safeguard the interest of the nation.
“Ghana belongs to us, no matter which party one belongs to, it is our duty to protect the peace of the nation,” Mr Donkoh said.
He urged the youth not to allow anybody to influence them to cause violence after the ruling no matter which party it would be in favour of.
“The safety of our people must be our concern,” he said, adding that under no circumstances must we allow politics to divide us to the extent of making us enemies.
“Parties will come and go but Ghana must remain intact,” Mr Donkoh said.
Mr Donkoh appealed to the NPP supporters to continue to pray to God to give the wisdom of King Solomon to the judges to enable them to give wise judgement on the petition.
He appealed to the leaders of the two leading parties to stop commenting on the way the ruling would go in order not to create false hopes in their supporters which could lead to violence when the ruling did not favour their party.
Mr Donkoh announced that the party would celebrate the 69th Anniversary of the founding of the United Gold Coast Convention at Saltpond on August 4, 2013.
He wished the junior high school students who would start their Basic Education Certificate Examination on Monday, June 17, 2013, well.
He urged them to face the examination with courage and hope.
