Fathers urged to have time for their children

Mrs Esther Hamilton, Director of the Light of the World School Complex at New Apraku in the Ga South Municipality, has called on fathers to have time for their children.

Speaking on the observance of Fathers Day, she said, creating and having quality time would make the children to develop a sense of attachment and love for their fathers, which was needed for them to grow healthy and well.

“Fathers must go home after work to support their wives in caring for the children instead of spending time at drinking bars or with girl-friends,” Mrs Hamilton said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at New Apraku in the Greater Accra Region.

She said the difference in the celebration of Mothers’ Day and the Fathers’ Day should be an eye-opener to the fathers to appreciate the care mothers give to their children than their fathers.

The educationist, said fathers played a role in bringing children into the world, but most of them (fathers) shirked their responsibilities towards their children.

She said children were gifts from God and those blessed to have them must take very good care of them.

Mrs Hamilton called on mothers to let the children know the efforts of their fathers in their upkeep.

She said it was unfortunate that some mothers because of their self-fishiness would not make the children to know the contribution their fathers made before leaving home early in the morning to work while the children were asleep.

The Director appealed to mothers to accept children brought forth by their husbands from outside the wedlock and also asked them to give equal treatment to them.

She bemoaned women who refused to accept children born outside the wedlock.
