An Ambulance conveying a seriously ill person to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) crashed into a Toyota Urvan “trotro” bus in Kumasi.
One person died on the spot in the accident near the Asokwa interchange in Kumasi around 1300 hours yesterday, when the patient was being conveyed with two accompanying paramedics on board from the St Patrick’s Hospital at Pramso in the Bosomtwe District to KATH.
The patient, drivers of the two vehicles and several occupants of the urban bus, including three kids sustained serious injuries.
The injured persons were rushed to KATH whilst the body of the deceased, an occupant of the Urvan bus, whose identity was not immediately known, has been deposited at the KATH morgue.
The two paramedics whose conditions were not serious were sent back to the Pramso Hospital for treatment.
Kofi Yeboah, an eye witness told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Urvan bus, after picking up a passenger at the traffic light area suddenly joined the main road instead of waiting for the ambulance, which was speeding amidst the sounding of the siren to pass.
