Kwahu West Municipal yet to have Presiding Member
The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly for the second time failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) as the two contestants could not obtain the needed two thirds majority of the assembly members present.
It would be recalled that about two weeks ago none of the two contestants, the incumbent PM, Mr Emmanuel Kingsley Osei, and Mr Dickson Amofa Achirem, the chairman of the Finance and Administration sub-committee of the Assembly, obtained the two thirds majority to win the election.
During the first round of voting held on Friday, the incumbent, Mr Osei, a Government appointee and a former Principal of the Presbyterian College of Education at Akuapem Akropong, obtained 21 votes out the 36 assembly members present as against 15 by Mr Achirem.
On the second round of voting, Mr Osei had 20 votes while Mr Achirem got 16 votes which again fell short of the two thirds majority.
The election has, therefore, been suspended indefinitely while Mr Osei continues to act as the PM of the Assembly.
