Kotoko wins 2012/2013 Ghana Premier League
Kumasi Asante Kotoko completed a successful defence of the Premier League crown thanks to a lone goal victory over Amidaus Professional on the final day of the season.
Substitute Prince Baffoe scored the only goal of the match on 71 minutes as Kotoko wrapped up the 2012/2013 Glo Premier League title at the port city of Tema, and take their tally to 22 overall.
The Porcupine Warriors’ triumph was made possible after fellow contenders Berekum Chelsea slump to a 1-2 loss at Kpando against Heart of Lions.
Chelsea and Kotoko were in a neck to neck race for the title but their slip in the Lions den saw the latter cruise to the title with the victory over Amidaus.
After a balanced barren first half, Kotoko lifted up their game and succeeded in breaking the deadlock through Baffoe with a well-taken shot that beat the Amidaus goalie.
The Porcupine Warriors held on to the slim lead till proceedings came to an end. Moments after the final whistle, players, officials and supporters of Kotoko went wild after news filtered in that Chelsea had lost at Kpando.
Kotoko are set for the double and will face Medeama in the final of the MTN FA Cup on July 14 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
