Dr Nii Quaynor, Board Chairman of the National Information Technology Agency, (NITA) has joined the ranks of notable individuals who have been inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame .
This was due to his significant contributions to the advancement of the global Internet.
A statement issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency said Dr Quaynor was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame for his pioneering Internet development and expansion throughout Africa, a category which recognises and celebrates individuals who were instrumental in the early design and development of the Internet.
Dr Quaynor has served on several boards, and had been a member of the UN ICT Task Force.
He is a member of the National Identification Agency Board, Patron – Internet Society Ghana Chapter, and was the recipient of the Internet Society’s prestigious Jonathan B. Postel Service Award for pioneering work to Advance Internet in Africa in December 2007.
“This year’s Internet Hall of Fame inductees include extraordinary individuals that have helped make the Internet what it is today: the most successful global platform for communication, social, and economic development ever seen,” said Internet Society President and Chief Executive Officer Lynn St. Amour.
“We applaud these inductees for their passion and commitment to the Internet and its role in making the world a better place,” he said.
“My one goal has always been to enable the billions of people from developing countries to have a chance to benefit from this platform,” says Dr Quaynor.
“The sacrifice has been great, but the rewards and benefits for generations of people in developing nations who would otherwise have missed the opportunity, have been limitless,” he said.
