Nkonya, Alavanyo urged to adhere to peace pact
The Reverend Jehoida G.K. Amuzu, Coordinator of National Youth Rally in the Volta Region, on Monday appealed to the people Nkonya and Alavanyo, particularly the youth, to adhere to the peace pact signed by their chiefs in Accra, to ensure their peaceful co-existence.
“No single life must be lost again in this ethnic conflict and the youth of the two communities must show the way,” he said.
Rev. Amuzu made the appeal at a youth rally held in Ho to commemorate this year’s Republic Day Anniversary.
It was organised by churches and other Christian groups on the theme: “Celebrating the peacefulness of the Land – the God factor.”
Rev. Amuzu urged young people in the two communities to “give peace a chance and bury their over 80 years enmity over land and boundary issues.”
He asked the youth not to allow anyone to directly or indirectly influence them to do things that could undermine peace in their areas.
Rev. Amuzu described Ghana as partially peaceful and charged opinion leaders to work “hard” towards maintaining peace in the country.
He asked Christians to pray ceaselessly for peace to prevail in the country because, “without the God factor, we can’t have peace.”
Rev. David Eleblu, Volta Regional Coordinator of Victory Bible Church, asked Ghanaians to appreciate the peace they have enjoyed and desist from making abusive comments on radio stations.
Rev. William Kudoyor, who helped in organising the rally, urged government to pay attention to challenges facing the youth, and said unemployment and streetism were important issues that needed to be addressed.
The participants prayed for the youth, nation, leaders and the peaceful resolution of the 2012 Election Petition pending at the Supreme Court and the youth of the country.
