FDA arrests shop owner for selling expired biscuits
Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Western Region has arrested a shop owner, Kwesi Jambo at Effiakuma, for selling expired biscuits and other confectionery.
The Western and Central Regional Zonal Manager of the FDA, Mr. Solomon Agampim, told the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi that Jambo was apprehended during a post-market surveillance exercise.
He said the suspect erased the dateline on the products and wrote new dates on them to deceive the public.
Mr. Agampim said Jambo would appear before court for selling unwholesome products, and if found guilty, would pay 7,000 penalty units or in default spend a minimum of four years in prison.
He advised Ghanaians to be vigilant when purchasing products from the market or supermarket.
