Government allocates GH¢7.6m for tertiary institutions
Government has allocated GH¢7.6 million to all public universities and polytechnics for the completion of on-going projects to facilitate in-take of students come the 2013/2014 academic year.
Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Education, who disclosed this on Friday when he met the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Professor Domwini Kuupole at his office, said Government hoped to see infrastructure development in the institutions completed by August this year.
He was at UCC to inspect progress of work on the projects.
The Minister assured Ghanaians that the Government was working closely with the authorities of the institutions to encourage them to admit more students next academic year.
For his part, Professor Kuupole said admissions would rise to 5,000 this academic year from 4,832 last year, adding that about 1,000 students would be admitted to the Accra Campus of the Centre for Continuing Education.
He said if a two-storey building structure could be built in the next two months before the next admission started, then more students would be admitted.
