Lands Commission clears SSNIT over workers village
Mr Bentsi Enchil, Chief Valuer in charge of compensation at the Lands Commission, has said the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) duly acquired the land for the Elmina workers village.
At the sitting of the Judgement Debt Commission on Monday, Mr Enchil said even though SSNIT initially acquired 223.19 acres of land for the housing project, it only used 27.72 acres and the remaining was handed over to the owners.
He said the rightful owners of the land were the Entra-Nsona family and that SSNIT paid an amount of GHc 55,440.00 as compensation.
Mr Peter Hayibor, Head of Legal Services at SSNIT, said the land was acquired to build houses for workers in the Central Region and compensation was duly paid to the claimants through the Land Valuation Board.
Justice Yaw Appau, Sole Commissioner for Judgement Debts, commended the Chief Land Valuer and the Head of Legal Services at SSNIT for clearing any doubts surrounding the acquisition of the land for the workers village.
