Kassena-Nankana West District rejects DCE
Mr Thomas Dalu, incumbent District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Kassena-Nankana West District, who was re-nominated by the President, has been rejected by the Assembly.
He failed to make the two-thirds mark required for his reinstatement after polling 40 out of 64 votes cast by members of the Assembly.
Mr Brews Ayisi, Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) who presided the voting, read the ground rules to the house prior to the election reminding them that the nominee needed two thirds of the votes cast.
Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Upper East Regional Minister, earlier in good will message appealed to members of the house to vote massively to confirm the nominee.
He said it was time to put all their differences aside and forge ahead for the development of the district.
Mr Abuga Pele, Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, said the day was a sad one and asked members who would be reconvening in 10 days to vote for the second and last time to exercise their mandate with tact.
A second rejection would mean the President would have to nominate a different person.
In a related development, Assembly members for the Binduri District voted overwhelmingly to confirm the President’s nominee, Mr Daniel Akologo Adoliba.
He got the votes of all 17 members of the Assembly.
