The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) is to be upgraded into an Authority in order to give it more powers to operate efficiently.
Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, Board Chairman of the Commission, said this during a farewell dinner for the former Executive Director of the Commission, Mr Noble John Appiah and former deputy director in charge of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Rudolph Perfect Beckley, in Kumasi.
Mr Appiah has been transferred to head the Metro Mass Transit Limited while Mr Beckley had been elevated to head the Driver, Vehicle and Licensing Authority.
The Board Chairman said the upgrading of the Commission to an Authority would enable it employ more human resources to execute its mandate effectively and efficiently.
He said all the necessary legal documentation had been completed and it’s currently at the Cabinet level for approval before it goes to Parliament to be passed into law.
Mr Gyan, who is also the National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), described the former Executive Director of the Commission as humble, hardworking, innovative and an honest person.
The new Executive Director of the NRSC, Mrs May Obiri-Yeboah, described his predecessor as an industrious person who brought a lot of innovations into the Commission to reduce carnage on our roads.
She asked for the cooperation and support of the entire staff as they work together to decrease road crashes to the barest minimum in the society.
Mrs Obiri-Yeboah, on behalf of the Commission, presented a citation and a plaque to both Mr Appiah and Mr Beckley for their meritorious service to the Commission.
The night was full of entertainment with melodious highlife songs from Super 07 Band while some food and drinks were served to make the night memorable.
