Nursing mother arrested for possessing cannabis
A 29 years old nursing mother was on Wednesday arrested at the Cocoa Affairs court in Accra, for possessing five wraps of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis.
Esther Amorkor was arrested following her visit to a prison inmate at the court cells.
She took along 10 balls of banku, out of which five contained the wrapped dried leaves, with okro stew and one box of Don Simon fruit drink.
Esther, unemployed and resident of Lapaz, however, denied ownership of the substance, saying she was sent by someone to give the food to one Abgee in the cells.
She said, on her way to her father’s house at Opera on Wednesday morning, she met a woman who asked her to send food to her brother at the court cells.
Esther said the woman, who had two tribal marks on her cheeks, promised to give her GHc50.00, if she was able to deliver the food to the brother and gave her GHC5 as advanced payment.
She said “the woman gave me GHc 5.00 on the spot and told me that if I am able to give the food to her brother she would add the rest of the money”.
However, the said Abgee, who has been admitted to bail on a different narcotic case, denied knowing the suspect.
The suspect has been detained by the police for further investigation.
