GFA looks for August friendly for Black Stars
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is sweating for opposition for the Black Stars for next month’s international friendly.
The next FIFA free date for international friendlies is August 13-14, but the GFA has yet to land an opponent with barely three weeks to the said date.
A friendly game option serve as the best form of preparations for the Stars ahead of the ultimate 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zambia on September 6, in Kumasi.
The Stars need at least a point to book their place at the final stage of the continental qualifiers for next year’s Mundial.
Despite the hurdles, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, Communications Director of the GFA told GNA Sports his outfit is working feverishly in that regard.
“We are in talks with some teams and are hoping to finalize terms very soon. It will be premature to come up with any name once discussions are ongoing. I’m very sure that the Black Stars will get busy on that day,” he assured.
Whilst the GFA is labouring for opponents, the case is contrary for other federations including, teams that have booked passage to the final phase of the qualifiers.
Of top five ranked teams at the moment, Ghana is the only team without an opponent for next month’s friendly date.
Cote d’Ivoire are due to face Mexico in New York, Mali play Egypt in Casablanca, Morocco; Algeria square Guinea in Blida whilst and African champions, Nigeria battles South Africa in Durban.
The outcome of these matches might cause a shift on the rankings in the event the Stars stay inactive for the period.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are scheduled to face Japan on September 14 in Yokohoma.
