Ghanaian swimmers leave for world championship in Spain
The national Swimming team left Accra for Spain on Wednesday, to participate in the 15th World Swimming Championship in Barcelona, Spain.
The team eventually realized the dream of making the trip to the global championship after initial doubts over their participation.
The team managed to overcome financial challenges as well as documentary hurdles to pave way for their participation in the competition.
Williams Nana Kyei, General Secretary of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) disclosed this to the GNA Sports on Wednesday.
He said the GSA was able to secure funding for their participation through individual efforts, whilst a letter of attestation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the minors in the team aided the trip.
Nana Kyei added that, their participation was also aided by the international body, which made provisions for air ticket, accommodation and feeding.
The General Secretary said though their preparation had not been smooth they were confident of making the desired impact in the competition.
Ghana will participate in the championship, fixed for July 18 to August 4, with three swimmers; Kwaku Addo, Ophelia Swayne and Paa Kwasi Jackson.
The delegation was led by Theophils Edzie, President of the GSA and included Helena Williams and Kwami Kpodoh, both certified referees.
