Mr Baba Jamal, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development on Saturday, reiterated government’s commitment to support technical and vocational institutions.

He said such institutions were reliable sources of employment for the youth, and that, government through the GETfund, constructed and completed a twelve unit classroom and a six unit dormitory blocks for the Panfokrom Community Development Vocational and Technical Institute (CDVTI), under the Late President Mills.

Mr Jamal said this at the graduation ceremony of 29 students of CDVTI, Panfokrom in the Central Region.

He said the Institute over the years has contributed meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the country and had provided basic employable knowledge and skills to students.

Mr Jamal appealed to parents to enroll their children in technical and vocational institutions for practical skills to enable them to be self employed.

He said the Ministry will give them the necessary guidance to succeed in their endevours and urged the students to avail themselves as a group to access the available Business Development Services, establish by the government.

Mr Theodore Tandoh, Director of the Department of Community Development, at the Local Government and Rural Development, said the institute was established in 1952, as a Women’s Training Institute and commissioned on January 17 1957 by the Department of Community Development.

Mr Andoh said technical and vocational education and training has been an effective contributor to the reduction in youth unemployment.

He said Vocational and Technical education is one of the most effective human resource development strategies in the country, which trains the technical workforce for national development.

Mr Andoh appealed to the school instructors to monitor the activities of the students to perform well in the exams, urging the students to be focused and creative in their field of studies.

Mrs Rebecca Ampa-Korsah, the Principal of the Institute said the institute offer courses such as Catering, Fashion and Beauty Culture, Home Management, Plumbing, Graphic Design, Electricals, Building and Construction, ICT and Mechanical Engineering.

She said since the inception of the institute, it has trained over 2,500 students who are gainfully employed in government and private sectors whilst others are self-employed.

Mrs Ampa-Korsah said the Institute lacks a proper assembly and dinning halls, workshop and demonstration blocks, vehicles, modern equipment and training materials and urged all to come to their aid for assistance.
