Three arraigned for robbery

law-and-justiceThree persons have been arraigned at an Accra circuit court for conspiring to commit robbery and robbery, contrary to sections 23 (1) and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act.

The three, Robert Kofi Andor, Driver, Harison Brown Adarkwah, unemployed and Benjamin Aidoo, footballer, were said to have conspired to commit robbery at Alhaji Tabora in the Greater Accra Region.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offences, but were remanded into prison custody to reappear on August 6, 2013.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tuaruka Duuti told the court that the complainant is a trader, who lives at Alhaji Tabora in Accra, whilst the accused persons also live at Israel,a suburb of Accra, Achimota mile 7, and Alhaji Tabora respectively.

He said on June 19, 2013, at about 0300 hours, the first and second accused persons planned to rob the complainant of his car and contacted the third accused to assist them.

DSP Duuti said on June 21, at about 1130 hours, the first accused armed with a cutlass and the third accused with a pepper spray, laid ambush at the complainant house, to be alerted by the second accused when he is getting closer to his house.

He said at about 0400 hours when the complainant arrived home he realized that his gate was locked so he got out to open it, only to be attacked by the first and third accused from behind.

DSP Duuti said they took his car and bolted with it, and picked the second accused person on their way home.

He said the accused persons later gave the car out on loan to friend, with the second accused person claiming ownership of the car.

But the friend, unhappy with the terms of the loan, suspected that the car did not belong to the accused persons and reported the matter to the Nsawam Police.

He said upon the report the first and second accused persons were arrested and sent to the Nsawam Police station.

The prosecution told the court that on July 6, 2013, the first accused led the police to the house of the third accused, and on seeing the police he escaped, but was later arrested.
