Stakeholders begin disability sports training course
The Association of Sports for the Disable (ASBOD) and the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) on Monday commenced a five day training course for stakeholders in disability sports.
The training programme designed for coaches, technical officials, therapists and doctors selected across the country was in conjunction with the German Wheelchair Sports Federation.
The programme was aimed at equipping coaches, technical officials, therapists and doctors with modern day para sports techniques with Peter Richarz – Group Leader, Michel Mazingu-Dinzey and Max Vardon the resource persons.
Erasmus Adorkor, Director in Sports Development at the National Sports Authority (NSA) tasked participants to attach the needed seriousness to the programme to ensure maximum benefit.
“The potential to excel in para sport in Ghana is there, but we lack the high level coaching technique to go out there and excel.
“The Ajara Mohammed case was a classical example. She is the best on the continent, but failed to make the mark to participate in world events.
Rev. Cornelius Adja-Coffie, President of ASBOD/NPC urged the participants to use the opportunity to improve on their knowledge in the sports as his outfit looks forward to making an impact at the next Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
