Road crash fatalities down by 37.83% in Ashanti
Road crash fatalities in the Ashanti Region reduced by 37.83 percent during the mid-half of the year compared with the number of deaths recorded during the same period in 2012.
Mr. Thomas Bismark Boakye, Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), said 135 people were killed as against 172 in the previous year.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he said the significant decrease was achieved through a stepped-up road safety education and enforcement of road traffic laws and regulations.
The visible presence of the police on the roads has helped to restore some discipline and sanity.
He pledged the Commission’s determination to continue to work hard and collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure safety on the roads.
Mr Boakye appealed to motorists to be patient and show respect for traffic regulations to prevent accidents.
He, however, complained about poor design and construction of some roads and said this had not been helpful to efforts at bringing down road crashes.
