Parliamentary Committee meets GCAA

kotoka-airportThe Parliamentary Select Committee on Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises has entreated the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), to involve Parliament in its activities in order to educate members on issues confronting the Authority.

This Committee said would help members to be better informed to support the Authority’s amendment bills, which would soon be laid before Parliament.

Mr Joseph Nikpe Bukari, Vice Chairman of the Committee, who led the group on a familiarisation tour of the GCAA, said Order 184(1) of the Parliamentary Standing Orders mandates it to review and study on a continuing basis the operation of state enterprises with a view to determining their economy and efficiency.

He said despite this provision most state enterprises deal more with the ministries under which they fall rather than the Committee.

Mr Bukari said the Committee has the power to examine reports and accounts, income and expenditure among other activities.

Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey, Director-General of the GCAA, asked the Committee to support the Authority by facilitating the passing of the GCAA’s bill.

Members should also support the ratification of international conventions such as the Rome convention, the Beijing Convention, the Cape Town Convention and the Airport Protocol.
