Companies urged to reject corruption
Ghanaian Companies have been urged to reject corruption and adopt internationally accepted best practices to achieve sustainable growth.
Ms. Helle Johansen, a Senior Private Sector Advisor of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), said they should operate within the UN’s global compact principles, which demands that they avoid corrupt practices, employment discrimination and the promotion of greater environmental responsibility.
Addressing a day’s seminar in Kumasi, she reminded the companies to also uphold human rights and the employees’ right to collective bargaining.
The programme was organized by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) to sensitize its members on modern business practices and aid them to have a better understanding of international trade policies.
Ms Johansen encouraged members of the association to show strong inclination towards professional networking and the sharing of ideas to become more competitive on the world market.
Active participation in the “Global Compact Network” would create opportunities for them both locally and internationally, to expand their businesses, she added.
She asked them to be mindful of the changing business environment through the introduction of new ideas and technology and to make sure they were not left behind.
Mr. Robert Nketiah, Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Zonal Chairman of the AGI, promised to ensure the holding of regular workshops to help the members keep pace with modern business trends.
He invited all to avail themselves of such programmes to grow the economy.
Mr. Charles Wordey, Marketing Manager of the Export Development and Agricultural Investment Fund (EDAIF), took the participants through the guidelines for accessing the Fund.
