Re-introduce moral education in schools, DCE pleads
Mr Anthony Klokpah, District Chief Executive of the Ada West, has reiterated the call on the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to reintroduce the teaching of Religious and Moral Education in basic and secondary schools.
Mr Klokpah said the scraping of the subject had done more harm than good to the moral upbringing of students.
He made the call on Thursday, during the inauguration of a 13-member Board of Governors of the Ada Senior High Technical School at Sege.
The board, which is chaired by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joshua Dogbeda (Rtd), took over from the old board which was headed by Mrs Gloria Ocansey.
Mr Klokpah said the subject, when it was part of the curriculum, helped build the moral fibre of students and pleaded with policy makers and stakeholders to reconsider adding the subject to the curriculum.
Mrs Elizabeth A. De-Souza, Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, advised students to follow laid down procedures when addressing their grievances.
Mr Obodai Torgbor, Headmaster of the School, said the school which commenced on February 22, 1991, with 110 students, now has a population of 2,006, which comprised of 1,169 boys and 837 girls.
Mr Torgbor said the school faced challenges and these include lack of an assembly hall, inadequate accommodation for teachers and students, as well as the non availability of school vehicles.
