Minister meets security agency heads

The Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, on Tuesday said peace was not a tangible commodity that could be purchased in the market as the country reaches one of the highest most critical moments of its history.

“This is the country we have, we have nowhere to go, let us maintain the peace especially in the Region. If the verdict is passed and I have to leave this office or stay so be it and that is what I expect of all of us,” he said.

The Minister said this in his office when he called a meeting of security agencies, political party communication team members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) to deliberate on issues of security concerns as the country awaits the Supreme Court verdict

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru told the participants to be aware that the verdict would go in favour of one of the parties litigating at the Supreme Court.

However, he said, the verdict should not in any way disturb the peace of the country, adding ”we must all put in measures that, come 29th we will still be one family”.

He urged the participants to honestly share their views and bring out any potential security threat to enable the security agencies strategize to pre-empt any threat, adding “If there is any problem anywhere that we need to know, bring it out so that together we can find solutions to them”

The communication team members from the parties contributing to the deliberations conceded that they had a strong influence on the minds of the people and that their utterances when not guarded could plunge the country into chaos and pledged to be guided by their actions.

The meeting generally agreed on some proposals, paramount among which was for the participants to maintain the peace, the need to adopt acceptable internal arrangements to ensure that the Region remained calm and peaceful after the pronouncement of the verdict.
