Catholics urged to participate in evangelism
Very Reverend Father Andrew Campbell (SVD), Parish Priest of the Christ the King Catholic Church has urged Catholic faithful to be committed in the service of God and participate in sharing the gospel of God to others.
He said it behooves on Catholics and Christians to commit their energies to the supreme duty of proclaiming Christ to all peoples to win souls for Christ.
Rev Campbell made the call on Saturday in a sermon in honour of the visiting Supreme Officers of the Knights and Ladies of St .John International, US, a Catholic organization, to Ghana.
The sermon was on the theme “A World to Win for Christ”.
The Supreme Officers visit forms part of their programme tour of West African countries including Ghana, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, to interact with members of the organisation and chart the way forward.
Rev Campbell said it is the duty of every Catholic society to lead its members to holiness, Christ and prayers to stand the test of any temptation, and urged officers of the Knights and Catholics to know the teachings and the faith of the Church to defend it at all times.
Rev Campbell appealed to all, especially Catholics, to be committed to the will of God, and shun social vices such as cheating, bribery and corruption and live an exemplary life for others to emulate.
Archbishop Charles Palmer-Buckle, Metropolitan Bishop of Accra, on behalf of the Catholic Church, welcomed the visitors and said the country has a population of 25 million with Catholic faithful constituting 12 per cent.
Archbishop Palmer-Buckle admonished the officers to respond to the duties of the Church because “they are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.”
Brigadier General Sir Samuel Kofi Asubonteng, first Vice Supreme Subordinate President of Ghana’s branch of the organization, said the group is a semi-military organization, which uses the word of God to win souls for Christ in the church.
He called for peace and justice and appealed to all to be calm and united ahead of the Supreme Court verdict on August 29.
General Dale Gossianx, Supreme President of the organization thanked the leadership for the reception.
He said the Organization was formed in1886, by some American Roman Catholics in New York City to commemorate the gallant Knights who had courageously defended the Catholic Church.
General Gossianx said some of the aims of the organization, was to create and foster a feeling of fraternity and fellowship among the various “commanderies”, to aid, assist and support members and their families in case of want, sickness and death and to promote respect for the spiritual authority of the Roman Catholic Church.
