GOIL wins 2013 OMCs fun games
Ghana Oil Marketing Company Limited (GOIL) at the weekend won the coveted Petroleum Fun Games (PETFUN 2013) football championship trophy.
GOIL’s team led by its general coach Mr Patrick Akpe Kwame Akorli beat the unyielding Cirrus Oil Company team in the game that excited both supporters.
The match saw smart saves from both goalkeepers at the stretched end of the game, which ended regulation time barren.
GOIL managed to convert all five penalty kicks into goals as against four by Team Cirrus.
Thirty-two oil marketing companies participated in the PETFUN 2013, which was organized by the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs) at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
In the sack race event, Mr Michael Cudjoe of Glory Oil Company out-ran his closers sprinter Mr Faisal Hamid of Pacific Oil Company Limited, to carry the day.
Nana Yaw Bempoh of Cirrus won the playing cards trophy whilst Mr Mensah Mesh of Excel Oil Company Limited took the second place; Ms Eva Darkwah of Glory Oil won the women’s 100 meters dash with Ms Alberta Afram of Star Oil Company placing second.
Mr Shadrack Awuri of Glory Oil won the men’s 100 meters dash with Mr Osborn Acolatse of Lucky Oil Company taking the second place; Excel Oil defeated UBI Petroleum at the Volley Ball finals to win the trophy.
The table tennis trophy was won by Cirrus Oil disposing Strategic Energy at the finals; Total Petroleum was not perturbed by the power of the regulator, National Petroleum Authority as they defeated them in the Tug of War finals.
Mr George Dellor of Vihama Energy exhibited a lot of energy and skills during the Apple Chewing finals to burn out the oil in Mr Ibrahim Mohammed of Benab Oil.
GOIL depended on their good energy to beat stubborn Pacific Oil, who ran-out of oil at the last minute on the Pacific Ocean to win the draughts.
Dukes Petroleum flipped Frimps Oil Limited on the Ludo board to win the trophy at the finals.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the ten hour fun games; the event Commissioner, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Duah, commended all oil marketing companies, who participated in the games for exhibiting team spirit and good sportsmanship.
He disclosed that PETFUN 2014 would include special event like penalty kicks; spoon and lime race for Chief Executive Officers.
Mr Agyeman-Duah, who is the AOMCs Industrial Coordinator, however encouraged other OMCs that failed to participate in the PETFUN 2013, to start preparing for 2014.
Mr Akorli Managing Director of GOIL told the GNA he personally decided to join the other ranks in the fun games to boost morale of staff.
He said the games offered all participating teams an opportunity to develop and build on networks, burn-out and reduce stress.
Ms Ivy Owusu, Chief Executive Officer of Cirrus Oil, also commended AOMC for using games as an opportunity for industrial harmony.
