Police arrests Ghanaian, three Togolese in motorbike syndicate
The Aflao Police has arrested Senu Sena Komla, 30, Ghanaian and three Togolese believed to be members of a cross-border motorbike stealing syndicate.
The Togolese are Germin Kombartey, 22, Komlavi Amenyitor, 23, and Doe Gbafa.
Gbafa, a motorbike mechanic, was engaged by Komla to dismantle and re-assemble the bikes stolen from Togo by Kombartey and Amenyitor, Mr Daniel Dzamtse Aflao, Police Grime Officer, told the Ghana News Agency.
He said the Police found six motorbikes and seven discarded Togolese motorbike number plates from Komla’s house behind the Saint Paul’s Senior High School at Hatsukofe near Denu.
Mr Dzamtse said a team of Police men acting on a tip-off stormed Komla’s house on Saturday, August 17 and met Gbafa busily dismantling a motorbike and arrested him.
He said three more bikes without number plates and three discarded number plates were found in a room during a search.
Mr Dzamtse said Gbafa told the Police that he was engaged by Komla to dismantle and re-assemble the stolen bikes.
He said just when the Police were engaged with Gbafa; Kombartey and Amenyitor arrived with two new bikes stolen from Agoe, 13 kilometers from Lome.
Mr Daamtse said Kombartey and Amenyitor told the Police that that was the third consignment of stolen motorbikes they were bringing to Komla having smuggled them through unapproved routes.
He said Komla later surrendered himself to the Police and said he had bought and re-sold over 20 such bikes.
Mr Dzamtse said Komla mentioned Buga, Kwame and Kofi Foli as among other Togolese who supplied him with stolen bikes.
Some Togolese whose bikes were stolen have identified some of the impounded bikes when a joint Ghana-Togo security team escorted Amenyitor and Kombartey to a house at Agoe.
The suspects have been remanded into Police custody by an Aflao Circuit Court and are to reappear on August 27.
