Post verdict commentaries unnecessary – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday described the post verdict commentaries on the Judges, who sat on the 2012 election petition, as unnecessary and should be discarded immediately.

He said the country had gone through eight months of uncertainties and once the verdict was given and accepted by all parties in the case, there was no need to mount attacks on the Judges on their religious or political affiliations.

President Mahama said these when Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu, National Chief Imam, led a delegation to call on him at his Cantonments residence in Accra.

The delegation, made up of the Council of Muslim chiefs and leaders of various religious groups, was at his residence to congratulate him on his validation as the winner of the 2012 Presidential Election and to pledge their support to him.

President Mahama said the election petition was a case for Ghana’s democracy and was unnecessary to continue to dwell on it, instead the people should rally behind the President to achieve the country’s development goals.

He said his administration was focused on delivering on its campaign promises, and called for support from Ghanaians to play their roles responsibly to achieve those goals.

“I have always had confidence in Ghanaians for their obedience to law and order and, therefore, did not expect anything different after the verdict and will like to commend all stakeholders,” the President said.

He said the verdict further deepened the democratic credentials of the country and that every Ghanaian needed to be proud of that feat.

President Mahama said God, over the years, had been merciful to Ghana by continuously protecting the citizenry, and called on Ghanaians to justify the blessings by uniting for development.

Sheik Arimeyao Shuaib, spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, appealed to the President to run an all-inclusive government that would, in the long run, forge unity for development.

He said the country had remained united on account of the education of the electorate, and appealed to the leadership of all the political parties to continue educating their followers to let peace prevail.
