Election verdict revives business confidence – Minister

Mr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, a Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, on Thursday said that the election petition verdict has revived business confidence in the country.

He said the eight months of political litigation might have frightened the business community that had the intentions of investing in the country, but with the verdict given, the businesses would now be encouraged.

He said the petition had also impacted negatively on productivity as some people during the litigation might have spent time watching the proceedings on television while others listened on radio.

Mr Mohammed said the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (Television) spent about GH¢3.5 million on the live broadcast of the election petition, although that was beneficial to the public.

He said some Western Countries had evacuation plans for their nationals.

Mr Mohammed said government was focused on fulfilling all its election promises and would garner available resources to execute development projects.

He said Cabinet would later in the day hold a meeting to assess the impact of the petition, and discuss bills, including those on Property Rights and Ghana Library Service  that had been on the drawing board for long.

On sports, the Deputy Minister on behalf of the Government wished the national team, the Black Stars, success in their encounter with the Zambian national team in Kumasi on Friday.

He said their success would not only qualify the country to their three successive World Cup finals, but would also climax the serene environment that had engulfed the country after the election potion judgement.
