GTUC canvasses alumni support
Authorities of the Ghana Technology University have held an alumni networking event to solicit financial and material support to build a specialised university of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
They said alumni was an integral part of an institution that could help build a specialised university focusing on the application of ICT to advance social and economic development.
Dr Osei Darkwa, President of GTUC, said at the launch of the institution’s alumni association on Thursday night that it was on track of achieving its strategic goals and therefore needed support to complete.
“We want you (alumni) to support the university in its fundraising initiatives, and as a university partner, add momentum to our fundraising efforts,” said Dr Darkwa.
He said Ghana was changing at an accelerated pace and the university needed to create the right framework that would position lecturers and students to cope with new knowledge and innovations.
He called on members to strengthen the alumni networks in order to build closer collaboration with the university to promote and support meaningful academic and research programmes.
The President expressed that hope members would take an active part in building a more extensive and resourceful network that could lead to greater opportunities for academic and intellectual exchange between the association and the university.
Professor Patrick Otoo-Bobbie, Registrar of GTUC, called on past students to share in that honour by registering with the alumni network and contribute financially and materially to the progress of the school.
The top priority areas are promotion of virtual education, regional expansion, implementation of campus automation project, physical infrastructural development, implementation of new programmes and research promotion.
