Togolese charged for defilement
An Accra circuit court on Friday remanded Kojovi Dovi, a.k.a Kudzo, a Togolese, into police custody for defilement.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty, is to re-appear on September 16.
Chief Inspector Madam Veronica Rex Offei told the court presided over by Mrs Sedina Agbemava that the complainant in the case is Mr Adika Karim, the guardian to the victim.
She said the victim aged 10 is a class 5 pupil at Maamobi, a suburb of Accra.
The prosecution said the accused was also a business student of the University of Togo but now a French teacher at Anane Memorial International School, Nima.
She said the complainant, victim and the accused are relatives and live in the same family house at Maamobi.
“She said the accused usually sends the victim to run errands for him,” she said.
Madam Offei said on August 29, 2013 at about 12:30pm, the accused sent the victim with GH¢1.50p to buy him rice and stew but could not get some and she went into his room to inform him and also give him the money.
The victim met the accused lying on his bed and while stepping out from the room, the accused blocked the victim with both legs causing her to fall on the bed and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
She said the complainant arrested the accused and made a report to the Kotobabi Police Station, where a medical form was issued and the case was transferred to DOVVSU Tesano for investigations.
“Accused person on caution denied having defiled the victim and after investigation, he was charged with the offence,” she added.
